Jack dempsey breeding size??

From color variation and fin shape, as well as the description of how they are with each other, I would say that you have a pair. They could just be showing territorial displays, making one a dominant and one a submissive. My boys get all flashy all the time with each other, even tho they have lived with each other all their lives. From my breeding experience with these guys, and they're all I breed, I have found that they can start breeding at around 5-6 in. It seems some start sooner than others. It really is dependent upon tank variables and the fish's attitudes. I've had fish who refuse to breed, even after they are well into adulthood. I'd say grow them out a little bit more, keep an eye on tank stats and if they truly are a pair they'll lay eggs randomly for you.

I'd say there not breeding any time soon 7" is usually minimum for male. Females tend to breed when males are twice her size another 8months maybe. But yeah I have a female that looks like yours I'd say more than likely male and female.

Hello JackDempseyLove

Breeding size for Jack Dempsey's start @2.5" for the female & 3.0" for the male regardless what others have told you in this thread.
I have a young pair of bggg (blue gene gold gene) jack dempsey's the size I just described to you that spawned early Feb 2012. Most ppl just don't have success in pairing the fish properly until they are a little bigger. You can see the results from my new parents here in the forum.

I hope I helped you

I'll throw my two cents in here... I have a pair of blue gene jacks and they are only around 4". They just spawned and laid about 200-300 eggs on an oyster shell. I took the shell out after they were done and placed it into a 10 gallon with a slight water flow over them. The eggs have hatched now and the fry are all doing grate. I also, know these Blue Gene's Jacks aren't dwarfs because I seen both of their parents and know the person I got them from personally. I was also shocked that they bred and I also thought they would have to be MUCH bigger than they are right now to breed....But NOT true!

I'm certainly not an expert, but I disagree with most of the others. I'm pretty sure that's two females... Both have the bearding coloration almost exclusively. Hope I'm wrong buddy, gl with the pairing!
