The lighter one looks regular to me. My JD gets dark when he's stressed...

What I learned was that fish that are pale white(not regular) would show stress... a darker shade, while it does show change doesn't exactly mean that it's stressed.

u are right about darker not always meaning stress. but it always is a marker for a dramatic mood shift and almost always stress or breeding. pale fish may show signs of stress from environmental conditions, but this almost always accompanied with some form of dark barring or patterning.
