Where Palm Trees Grow
Yesterday I had to move my JD from my 55g to my 10 because he was beating my jag real bad, so I move him with my O and they did not mess with eachother whatsoever so I go to bed. Wake up and I see my Oscar fins torn, all scales ripped off, and hes just sitting in the corner leting the JD bite him without any attempt to get away. So I immediately move him back in the 55g, I am going to leave in about an hour to give him to my fish store but I wanted to know if my Oscar is going to live, he is not showing any of the personality he has. He wont eat which is a HUGE shocker to me. Is there anything I can do to help him? is there any medication I could buy? :help2::help2::help2:

He's probably still just stressed. Give him some time to heal and he should start eating again relatively soon. You'll naturally need to keep an eye on him, but I've seen some really mangled fish come back fine.

Good luck..and a JD and an O in a 10..learn from that mistake :)

Yea I shoulda known, but I would rather my O die then my Jag sadly.

Well no kidding he won't eat he just got the tar beat out of him. What would make you think he would be hungry. And who keeps a oscar and a jd in a 10g together. Sounds to me like you like playing Russian roullete with your fish.

JDs can be HIGHLY aggressive...which I'm sure you figured out by now. How big is the O and why was he in the 10 to start with?

I'm not preaching at you or doggin' you, but when you deal with aggressive fish, you're going to have problems eventually. If they have room and a mix of fish it's easier to control them usually. I'm an African keeper, but I'm pretty sure CA/SA cichlids aren't much different at all.

Sad to hear. You can try using somthing like Melafix. Treatments like these are used primaraly for disease but also doubles as a wound treatment aswell. It will help the wound heal faster and possibly help stop an infection the O might get from just simply being stressed out. Good luck with the O!

Really? I have a juvie jag and a JD twice the jags size and the jag always wins. Ive read there not as aggressive compared to the other CA cichlids? I guess this proves the fact that all cichlids are different

sorry to hear about your oscar, as dempseys are generally among the short list of preferred tankmates for oscars. Just keep up with water changes, etc, and perhaps add some salt, as the oscar will heal on its own and eventually get back to normal (assuming the dempsey isn't with it)

My jag is beating my Oscar up pretty bad, I just woke up and of course they are having a lip lock battle, I'm scared my Oscar is going to be killed eventually and he is my favorite fish,

Why would you want rather your "favorite fish" die?
