I had the same issue the first few days I had my baby JD. Purchased him with 2 baby Tiger Oscars. At first, he would stay in his little cave and only come out when some of the flakes or blood worms fell to the bottom. However, after a few days, he started to come to the middle level of the tank to snatch food then would quickly retreat to the cave. Now, he generally swims along side the tiger Oscars in a group, playing and fluttering up against each other. He is generally the first to hit the top for food and he is just about 1.5 inches long.
