I have a approx. 12 inch Jack in a tank by his self. I feed him Hikari Chiclid Gold. I have several other tanks with a variety of fish. I like to get them crickets, worms, grass hoppers, ect, for treats every now and then. I also have a couple of different foods for each group. All except Jack. With crickets, worms or anything else for that matter he will watch it pass right by, but will go nuts for the Hikari balls, he will take them right out of you fingers. I can't really complain, Hikari is probably good for him and is a good stable diet but I would think it would want something different every now and then. I am not a feeder fish fan, besides you have to starve him for days to get him to eat a feeder. Any suggestions or bizarre foods they like?

My JD eats Hakari Bio-Gold + & Excel as the staple and also likes Krill and mealworms I removing the mealworms dump out half the stuff in the container and add Omega one color flakes after a couple of days I start feeding the meal worms to the fish.

Every other day I feed mine pellets, both Cichlid Bio gold, and Cichlid staple.

Every day that is not a pellet day I feed her live insects like worms and crickets, or veggies which I find it varies from fish to fish on what veggies they will eat. Mine likes peas and asparagus, but hates lettuce and green beans.

I also feed her frozen foods mostly beef heart and bloodworms. And then once in a great while when I eat seafood I will give her a small piece of salmon or a half of a small shrimp.

In my experience most Jacks like and can live on pellets only, but they seem to enjoy a variety of foods a lot more the same old thing day after day. You just need to experiment with different foods to see what he likes. Also make sure that the stuff you are feeding him has good nutritional value.

Anyways that's my 2 cents.

My EBJD loves everything u offer him. Since your JD is not much into insects you might wanna try to beefheart or maybe even a piece of prawn?

I feed mine Hikari Gold, Dry-Freezed Bloodworms, Feeder Fish 3 times a year if that, Worms once every 2 weeks, And occasionally cricket. (once every 3 months or so) I used to feed her Hikari Cichlid Staple but i switch to gold and she has developed lots of her scales now, and I really like it. Mine will take just about anything. but she takes her time I might have to wait some time with feeders or Inscets. WIth pellets she sees me come down the basement and shes waiting.

That's awesome. My JD is also in the basement, and before I even make it all the way down the stairs she is out of her cave at the front of her aquarium and begging.

My Demps like frozen Scallops. Small, bight sized raw, thawed and cut in half. Lots of protein here so they get it once a week.
