So my jacks have made babies the other day and I have about 100 fry swimming around with mommy and daddy in my 55 gallon I have been doing some reading about what to do with the fry but I'm still not sure.... Should I remove the fry and put them in a grow tank they have been swimming for about two days. As of right now they have the run of the tank with just the two parents and the fry I took the other fish out that they were sharing the tank with and have moved them to another tank. I know that jacks are supposed to be good parents but how long should I wait before I move them? Also I'm not sure if it matters but the dad is and electric blue and the mom is a green... Thanks for the help in advance

Yes, keep the frys with the parents... The parents will take care of the frys... feed the frys BBS or crush flakes. All should be well..

Ok I also noticed that some of the fry were being sucked into the canister filter so I quickly shut it off and opened it and found about 30 fry in the canister so I dumped them back into the tank. I have not hooked my filter back up I don't want to keep losing fry so how long can I leave my filter off? I have a water pump with air going to keep the water moving

put a sponge over the intake of your filter..
This is correct... punch a hole in a sponge & put it over your intake, then start the filter again.
Ok so when should I look at moving the fry into a grow tank? I am thinking like three or four weeks?

Congrats on your new babies... you have to post pics of the parents and fry ASAP. :)
Now the fry you can keep with the parents for about six weeks, because they'll lose interest & the fry will start to be more independent.

Good luck with your babies and keep us updated.

Very Nice :)
You have a good looking set of parents, but I think the female is a regular wildtype jack dempsey or possibly a blue gene.
The male is a good looking EBJD. I'd like to see some better pics if possible.

Thank You

If the fry are active and swimming around you can remove them if you want. usually low stressed parents will do better keeping their fry but it will work the same either way. usually in breeding tank sponge filters are always a good idea. especially in grow out tanks.

I tried to get some better pictures but they weren't really having it haha but the fry are very active and swimming around but like I said I took the other fish out of the tank so I think I will just let the parents do what they do and then take the fry out after 5 or 6 weeks and put them in my grow tank. It's fun to just watch the mother suck the fry up and spit them out where she wants the only thing I'm worried about is the parents aren't really eating at all and I know that the parents feed the fry I'm going to go pick some other food up tomorrow to feed them any suggestions as to what I should get other than bbs?
