Hey guy's and gal's I am shopping around for a JD centerpiece for my 60 gallon tank...I saw these at a LFS they are labeled as Electric Blue JD's and are $30 and the fish are 1 - 1.5 inches big...I just want to know are these really EBJD's???? Also I think I have read a thread about someone saying that most EBJD's die before they reach a certain size is this true?? Thanks For any reply's

Yes, those are EBJDs. And yes, some have poor genetics. $30 is an all right price. I would recommend buying a few though, not just one.

EBJD's are hard to keep.
some die really easy.

They are a recessive gene which makes them weaker. Id recomment you really read up on them before regretting an impuls purchase. It is recommended to buy a group, the weaker ones will die off. Also they require a varied diet and pristine water. They are more passive than a regular JD.

Do some reading here.

They are not guaranteed to die, but it is somewhat common. The better water quality you provide the less likely it is to happen.

I don't think I've ever lost a regular JD, they are really hardy. For the EBJDs, once that pass that cream white stage they seem to do much better.

Also, mature, regular jack dempsies can look *really* nice.

My regulars were BEAUTIFUL!!

In fact I have a regular that is looking to be extremely promising :D
