Does anybody have any experience sexing a Jack Dempsey Fish? My best guess is that he is male because of bright coloration and aggressiveness, but that is simply a guess. Here is a few pictures of the fish in question. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

this is not a pure JD, for JD trates? I would say male. female keep there banding, and do not get full body color. but again that is not pure JD, nice looking fish tho :)

that may well only be part(mostly )jd... but it sure has the look of a male

the pic looks as if you got a little carried away adjusting the levels on an editor?? also doesnt look regular jd in the first pic, maybe the pic was taken at an angle through the glass distorting it?

nice male

These were edited a bit so the fish would be more visible and such, also now that you pointed it out his head does look distorted from the glass a bit. here are some unedited pictures of him for a better look. So you think he is a hybrid? if so would he have been cross bred? or just a little different looking?

defo a regular jd mate, pics are much better now;)

You can't be too sure about the sex of this specimen. I've had female JD's with male coloration and just a little blue on their cheeks... that body type is strange.

To the others who say this is not a pure JD, "Lol". I don't see anything where it isn't. I've had JD's look like this, specifically some females.

I'm gonna say it's more of a female IMO.
