Anyone who has a Jack Dempsey Cichlid, Ever had issues where the fish, hides in the dark places all day, only comes out for food, half of the fish is blue, the other half is grey. anyone know anything about this?

well my female JD dose that but when she is hurassed by the female jag in my tank

JDs are pretty notorious for their skittishness, and hiding is nothing new . . . typical behavior

when you say "half blue, half grey", how so? it's not unusual for a JD to be darker on top, say . . . if you think it's worth noting, you could try to post a pic

My JD hides a lot. It will come out and patrol the tank every now and then but usually only comes out to eat or chase off another fish if it gets too close to his cave.

Although JD are skittish.. I find that this behavior occurs often in females..

The female hides more than my male... she does that because my Male sometimes pick on her... The male does get skittish from time to time..

Ur JD's behavior is normal.. but should probably find a mate for it.. to keep it from hiding all the time..

it was always very active since i got it, then suddenly it's hiding in the chest constantly, doesn't come out as often, when it does come out, it swims to the other side then goes back inside the chest, also my JD when it's out, it hasn't been raising it's Dorsal Fin ever since it started hiding.

also if you only have 1 JD how do you know if it's a male or female?

ok well my JD came out of the chest last night, went to the top, took the worm out of my hand, my JD had his dorsal fin raised, but I noticed a whole in the middle of it, looked like a perfect circle through the dorsal fin, so I know it wasn't from scrapping, with any of my others.

Anybody ever had this happen with a JD?
