No they are both my fish and never look anything alike. As you can see they are so different but all the ones I see in stores and online tend to look like the more barred darker guy
that's because pic#1 is a female and pic #2 is a very jeweled, colored-up male. Stunningly beautiful male, if I might add also
if they haven't bred yet, it will probably happen soon
worst case scenario, pic#1 could be a sub-dominant male pretending to be a female for survival purposes, but I assume the JD in pic#2 is considerably larger?
You think it's a female because that's what I bought it as and wanted to pair them but decided to separate them after they tried to kill each other with the supposed female being the champ. And thank you I've always thought he was a spectacular specimen especially since I got him from petsmart he was just barely an inch and boss of the tank now he's a monster

Yes he is about twice as big and way thicker. And jack the male is in his own 60 gallon while the smaller one currently lives with the oscars and my common pleco in the 130 tall

well, pair them up if u want them to breed, if not keep them separate. Almost sure it's (pic#1)a female if she's alone - no reason to pose as a female if it's really a male. they only do that if there's more than 1 TMK
He's really REALLY bad-ass, great pattern and colors....how old/big is he?
now where is
twhittle ? hey, I think u got some competition here, Bud
