Jack Dempsey refusing to eat and acting shy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your jd (male) looks really nice. As long as it's colors aren't dull , meaning it's stressed, then your jd is alright.

Thought I should update, he seemed to ignore bloodworms and beefheart at first, but someone was still eating all of it. I came home last week early in the morning before the lights were on and he swam right up to me and begged for food.

So after repeating this a few times jow it seems like the lighting is stressing him out. My plants love the lights, so is there a way I could make them better for the Jd and make him return to normal behavior?

Sounds sorta like mine. I guess it is either keep the lights off and kill the plants, or let your jd hide and stuff during the day and have him been normal at night

cute little guy. I have a few JD and they run from never coming out to all over the tank. I do suggest you do not feed him beef heart. this is not tropicle fish food and is to fatty, leading to faddy liver. quality pellets best thing with treats on the sidf like meal worms or night crawlers, i like jumbo krill soaked in boyds vita-chem also.

My dempseys in the past would either hide or swim around carelessly non-stop. He looks healthy, and you say he eats well so I wouldn't worry a lot.

If you're sure it's the lights and want to keep your plants try having two shorter periods with the lights on with a break between - four hours lights on, 2 hours lights off, four hours on for example. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.

my Dempsey is a dovii trapped in a dempseys body. dude bangs the glass

I have a male that does that, he is mated and have 4 week fry atm moment, fixing to pull them, yesterday when i fed him he missed the pellet and jumped out of the water and bit into the led light housing, screwy fish. female not shy either, attacks the tank glass if you get to close while in breading mode.

Dempseys do seem to have a wide variety of personality, most I've had went through phases of shy or very outgoing. One of my favorite fish to this day really.

He ate normally before there is a bubbler going on a hydor v sponge filter snd then a maxijet 1200 on another sponge filter.

Temp is at 77-78, and yeah he doesnt attack the glass its more of him acting like a bull in a china shop. When hea not sulking hes getting freaked out by someone walking by and proceeds to ram into everything and knock most stuff over. Its a miracle my plants arent all uprooted yet
