I have a male JD and a female synspilum. They are "extra fish" in a tank together. I see spawning behavior. Is it possible? Offspring would look really cool IMO.

Offspring would just be more horrible unidentifiable hybrids polluting the hobby.
I'm sure it could happen. I've never heard of that cross though. in the hybrid section there is a pinned thread full of hybrid pictures. maybe you'll find something in there.
Anythings possible. It probably would be cool looking. If you want it, go for it. Dont mind the purist people. Although i do agree you shouldnt sell or give them away

Most hybrids just don't look right to me, in my fish keeping infancy I thought certain combinations would look cool but they all end up just looking like ****. Dempsey x Synspilum is a perfect example; two gorgeous fish on their own, how could a combination not be good?
