Hello i have a jack Dempsey in a 20 gallon long and it won't stop getting this terrible brown algae on everything water pera meters are fine and I feed him shrimp and pellets. Amy way to keep the tank cleaner?

its algea, more than like do to over feeding and high phosphates in the water, phosphates are used to prevent corrosion in pipes. as an FYI a 20g tank is to small for a JD,

what exactly are your water perams? and what test kit you using?

You have to look at your feeding and water change schedule

Oh idk then.. I got brown algea when I first set up my jack dempsey tank

I was overfeeding and I had rotted plants in there I didn't know about

Hmm I will try to feed less and see if that fixes it, I feel like I have to get it all out of there first though or maybe put a chemical to get rid of it

Ya u shouldn't put a chemical in, in my opinion.. It will just go away on its own with water changes and feeding less.. I only feed my fish every other day now or sometimes once a day.. If u feed them too much they won't be hungry anyways...

algae is not bad for your fish, we just do not like looking at it, long as your water perams are good, again less feeding, and feed slower, feed no more than they will eat aggressively, A hungry fish is a healthy fish. all that being said you will never stop getting some algae. get a magnet scrubber or a hand scrubber to keep it off the glass. or do as I do and get a common pleco long as tank large enof. keep in mind they poop allot in long ropes.
