So I was just curious about this fish. I was reading about it and there are some mixed reviews about it, some say they’re weak and some say they’re total psychos. What’s your opinion on it. Also if I ever get them can I keep them with a Jag? I find JDs really cool. Just wanted to know about their aggression level. Any other info will be appreciated too
Thanks in advance

JD's have morphs. Electric Blue is most common. Normal JD's are mid-level aggression. Jags are more aggresive than them. JD's can get yp to 12 inches. Electric Blue JD's are coocoo. They are hyper, and psycho. If you ever want one, get a Normal one.

Was planning to get a normal one. Was considering a JD with a Jag as it also has teeth similar to the Jag (Don’t know about the bite force though) Always knew that JD was a little less aggressive than a Jag but never imagined people would be calling it a wuss

Jacks are relatively slow growing and mildly mean. Mine is getting aggressive, but doesn’t do too much damage or attacking. Still young though. They have an attitude but nowhere near parachromis or amphilophus. How big is the tank? Too small and you will see a lot of fighting with the jag.

Getting a 6ft in December as birthday gift. Was thinking of doing an American Cichlid tank. Jag and JD are my fav so wanted to know about their aggression and compatibility

Like all cichlids, aggression depends on the individual. If it is raised as a nondominant fish it will likely be mellower than the biggest one in the store. It’s also all relative, a jd makes a fire mouth look like a guppy, but next to a jag, a jd is definitely a wuss.

That should be enough space to keep them both happy.

Have thought of Firemouth of a wuss since beginning. On a scale of 1-10 how much would you rate JD in aggression?

Mine hasn’t shown his true colors yet, but from mine and what I’ve seen they are probably a 6-7.
Any other fish should probably be ones that won’t get in the jd or jags way once full grown. Probably convicts, severums, etc.
