That's not a bad idea. Although I'd hate for them to get accustomed to live cause that's a pain long term.

I mix it up to avoid pickiness. My fish get live food once-a-week and pellets, shrimp, frozen bloodworms, peas, cucumber or Cheerios throughout the course of it to keep them happy and healthy and not bored. They are all doing great!

Use floating plants to act as shade.... Water sprite works the best and also helps in the nitrification process.
