maybe get a mate,do you know the sex of your fish? another option is a fast schoolers.SD,giant danios,filament barbs,big rainbows
if you were to post a pic of your JD we could easily sex it for you, and then you could do a pair of JD's with some sort of dither
big rainbows and Silver Dollars are nice
if you were aiming for a cichlid community kind of feel, I can tell you that I've kept JD's with Blood Parrots, and I can imagine that severs and the like would work as well
Odd thing I am about to say though, back when I had my EBJD, I kept him with a Blood Parrot and a couple of Angels, along with 2 bichirs, a pleco, and 4 bigger than my hand sliver dollars, and surprisingly it worked out very well (though I wouldn't recommend keeping most pleco's with bichirs, but mine just simply happened to work out well for the past 5 years now)
I'd either do a pair with some dithers, or do a community with some nice tough cichlids, some tough dithers, and something neat on the bottom like some cats or bichirs or some sort
