The Jack Dempsey I just gave back to a freind grew from 1 inch to 10 inches in 2 years. It lived in a 20 gallon by himself for over a year. Happy fish keeping.

my large JD is a bit deformed from living most of his life in a 29 gallon, i would suggest something over 12" width, like a 40 breeder or 50 wide

My JD's went from 1/2" to 8" female and 10" male in about a year and a half. They where kept in a 55gal and fed a variety of hikari pellets and frozen food. Occasionally they got organic peas which they loved. Mine always where jet black with full turquoise markings until I sold them.

I agree that Jack Dempsey's grow slow if you get a jouvenile it should be ok in a 40 for a year or so....Electric blue dempsey's that I have owned seem too grow about the same as the usual JD,s..... Good Luck
