I had a thread going previously about cold hardy cichlids, and what it would take to breed cichlids that would survive colder and colder waters. Seems someone took that to heart, as eventually, the dempseys will survive further and further downstream.

Its not unheard of, we have had a population of sailfin mollies thriving in a geothermally heated stream in the central North Island (where it can get below freezing during winter) for decades now. I don't think the authorities are concerned about them as there aren't any natives in the warm water, which makes me tempted to go let a bunch of festae or jags or something cool loose to see what happens. I know it wouldn't be good in the long run though, its hard enough to import fish here as it is, something like that might just give them the motivation they need to restrict imports even more...
