Jag aggression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the thing about jags is they like theyre space they claim large territories wich is what hes doin. they like to prowl the perimeter and they don't wanna bump into no one or they'll go noodles. my jag is pretty tolerant even at 9 inches luckily

My jag has a bit of a temperament, he picks fights with my oscar and wolf fish but due to his terrible losing streak he basically stopped. Now there are also fish he left alone like my chlarius and rope fish. I guess all im saying here is it seems although aggression is a universal feature to these guys, how much can vary from fishy to fishy.

Chasing others is almost all there is to do for fun when u'r a predatory captive fish. I'd be glad he's healthy and confident.

You don't mention if she is a recent introduction and his (very normal) behavior is a response to her addition or if she was always present.
Fish can be very aggressive and a tank being an enclosed space,, well do the math. It's impossible to generalize and still be accurate about particular situations. Just watch closely.. and so long as he isn't de-scaling his tank mates on a regular basis, u'r probably fine.

I dont know how many fish are in your tank but if and when when they do spawn..
they'll need a lot of room to themselves and a hide for her that he cannot access,, -as you probably already know.

She's been in with him for the last 3 months. And I didn't plan on any breeding so I'm gonna remove her into a different tank

If anything I'd remove him. Males are usually the more aggressive of the two. Removing her really may or may not stop his aggression.
