Jag and dempsey protecting gar

So I have two gars one is bigger then the other they get along reletively well but the bigger gar is am ass and had killed a 12" red devil that was like 7 and a smaller red devil about 7 inchs two other Dempseys and a handful of convicts. I know why do I still have him right. Beyond that tho he just attacked the smaller one and messed him up pretty bad he can't swim strait now but what was crazy was the 12 or 13 inch jag and the 10 or 11 inch dempsey are protecting it from the big gar.

Magnificent!!! Mother Nature at it's finest....nothing weird about the intelligence of cichlids keeping them alive. They know what the bigger Gar is capable of and they know they need to stick together to stay alive

When I got my new pair of sens the bigger one liked to bully my albino when I first added him to the tank. My dempsey had been with the albino about 5 years at that time and he protected the albino all the time. Even got the side of his face slashed up good at one point doing it.

The sens get along now sadly as of about 2 months ago my dempsey is gone (old age I figure he was around 9 years old). But I will always remember him guarding the albino and hoiw the two of them and my original sen would share a cave all the time. Safety in numbers I suppose.

That's so cool everyone always makes Dempseys out to be so mean but truthfully there one of the most docile fish I've ever owned.

Truthfully any I had hit 5 inches then decided everyone must die LOL

P.S the jag and JD probably will turn on the smaller gar soon, I've seen cichlids baby other fish; almost like preparing them for a meal. Sorry to be cynical.
