I don't see it being your black sand. I have black diamond in my tank and I don't really see a difference. It could be a different environment and larger fish being in with it. It takes a few weeks for it to get used to its surroundings and to establish an area. Be patient you wont be disappointed.

im saying female because I don't see any blue hues at all in its fins. but it does have a male profile mouth. Spotting under his chin should be more prominate. but like I said before I could be wrong and it is too early to tell without venting the fish. It is really tricky at this stage. #1 the fish is stressed # 2 very small still. Feed him lots of good food ( bloodworms, crickets , small nightcrawlers ) staple pellet such as nls . and jags love 30 to 50 % water changes they grow fast !

Yes.......yes they do......they.....grow......very, very.........very fast.

Lonte216 - take a look at the belly; is it concave and goes inward a little or is it fat and round like a football. In my experience, all the females I ever saw hat big fat bellies, and the males always had a concave belly, regardless of the fact that they eat you out of house and home.

I mean it's early I guess, but that's how sexed mine and they are pushing 2.5"-3".
