Sorry about the upside down pic. Still trying to figure this pic thing out.Bottom pic is the parents moving just hatched fry around
its like herding cats,

just moved about 2/3 of the fry to the 75g grow out, leaving the rest so mom and pops still think they have a brood before they eat them.

To all u guys with jag pairs or who have grown out juveniles or fry.....

I have 9 growouts ranging from about 1"-3", trying to get a few females for my 10" male. Any visual signs that you guys have noticed that I can start looking for to spot the females? I know they're still far too small to sex with any accuracy but just wanted to see if anyone has any secrets that they've noticed while growing out juveniles.

I don't think there is a reliable way to tell until they are at least approaching the 5 inch mark at which point one can start to make projections based from confirmed males and females by comparing body shape and pattern...and above all else an accurate assessment of the genital papillae as it starts to appear.... and I will stress accurate...because on my largest which I thought at first to be a female then for months settled on it being a male (based on genital papillae) is looking very much female.....the one that you..JRT8783 have said in other posts that it looks(based on body shape) female....body shape may be one of the best indicators it turns out....I have been monitoring a situation occurring for the past month after moving my grow out jags from the 75 to my 150 with other fish... the largest jag has paired with my Texas/jag hybrid...seems like after moving it to the 150 that jag changed......
First pic before moving

Not great...looks outstanding:).... Beautiful pattern.... Seems like of the remaining four grow outs I have I got nothing but females...(and i recently lost the parental male)... I was holding off on posting until a little closer to or on the anniversary of their hatch(11/20)... The biggest one which is definitely female appears to be about 9 inches long at going on a year old.. May go for an official out of the water measurement on that day stay tuned......
