i ma out of town and my brother just called saying that the female of the jag pair has beaten the stuffing of the male and the male isn't swimming alright and has a few real bad wounds and seems like it is bleeding
i have asked him to put in a dividor and add salt in the tank and increase the temp

any one know of this kind of behavior among a jag pair which has bred quite a few times and every time succesfully have had fry

kind of venting here
i just wish i was there at home :(:(

Are they currently raising fry? I have noticed that some female cichlids will get super aggressive/defensive towards their mate when attending to fry. It's just one of them odd things where the female is super aggressive while the male seems to be more docile than usual and not fight back.

I had the same thing with a female I put in with my Xanthic, they had (at a guess with out looking back at pics) 8 spawns in a 300l tank, I moved them into a 450l tank where they had a few more spawns and then she started getting aggressive, she got so aggressive I sold her and found him a 2nd mate.

like said this is one of them things that happens.

i was about to give away the female and just keep the male alone so that he puts some size on
and now i get this call from my brother
anyways now the female is going no matter what

Sorry to hear about this, hope your male makes a full recovery.

hope everything turns out well i hate being out of town and when somthing happens to my fish

ok i reached home today and the it was the jag female that was killed by the male, i was about to give away the female so that i can let this guy put on some more size, unfortunately the female is dead and the male is lonely as was planned, IRONY
