Hey guys, it is hard (or im searching it wrong) to find info on jags in 5x2x2 tanks as the population is primarily US here on MFK and you seem to work in 4ft (55, 75 & 90g) or 6ft (125 & 180g) tanks.
If my stocking was reduced from what is in my sig to clown loaches, my midas, a synspilum and 3 BN plecos could I add a jaguar in?

Reason I ask is that I cannot seem to find freddies or loisellei anywhere and I desperately want a Parachromis to complete my new tank.

The midas appears to have either stopped growing or is growing exceptionally slowly but I think she has about maxed at 9.5" ish.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

To be perfectly honest, i have never in my 20+ years of keeping fish had a midas and jag work. some have i haven't

I had a 9 inch midas with a 7 inch jag in a 55 gallon with an oscar and jd for over 2 years till they were moved into a bigger tank. It can work but you must study the fish b4 u buy it. I just got another midas to go with my new jag and i watched the fish in the lfs for about 10 mins b4 i bought. I watched for aggression

Sorry I should should have clarified a bit more about my midas so you can give the best advice. She is female and gentle as can be, even when guarding eggs she only claimed about 12" sq around her flower pot as a no go zone. She is far from a "normal" midas in terms of temperament.
Short of actually being latched on to she doen't get physical, this has happened only once with a CAE.

The juvie jag I noticed was the one hiding at the back as the other was right in my face at the lfs even though it is only about 2.5", the hiding one is about 2" and definitely less dominant.

An Oscar, JD Jag and Midas in a 55g for two years? No wonder it worked, the fish could barely move much less fight.

the fish had plenty of room to swim. The jag and jd swam together. Should have added that i sold the oscar and the jd died from a power outage. the midas and jag lived together for 2 months b4 i got another fish. Just depends on the fish

When over 2 years old, just an Oscar by itself in a 55g doesn't have plenty of room to swim. Much less when cramming in a Jaguar and a Midas and a Jack Dempsey along with it. And a Jag should be a lot bigger than 9" and a Midas should be bigger than 7" when they're over two years old. I'm not even going to ask how big/stunted the Oscar was. But they had plenty of room to swim around. I'll just bow out of this discussion because you'll never convince me and we'll just argue and derail. Sorry Bro, I just don't think you're giving the OP a good example. Take care.

The fact that the Jag seems a little skittish now at 2" doesn't really mean that he will behave that way forever in your set up. But he would be the one that I would add if any at all. A jag is a lot different when older and larger. I hope you can pull it off.

Sorry, Aquamonster but I have to agree totally with Balton on this. Two year old cichlids of those particular species should not be housed together that long in a 55gal. The sizes you stated are pretty bad for cichlids of that age.

oscar was only in ther for 8 months if that. Might not have been right but it was my early fish keeping days
