oscar was only in ther for 8 months if that.

:liar: Well now you're changing your story. Stick to your guns around here cuz people have a good memory. They may have a hard time believing you from now on.

Cichlid2006 sorry for derailing. I have a 156g (5' x 2' x 25"). At one time I raised a bunch of CA/SA cichlids in it. They got along great for quite some time until they all started getting big. At that point I had to start thinning fish out and rehoming some of them. The Jag killed a few fish. It's a trial and error thing with cichlids. Some of them will work together fine but switch one out for an identical one and things could go to hell.

When over 2 years old, just an Oscar by itself in a 55g doesn't have plenty of room to swim. Much less when cramming in a Jaguar and a Midas and a Jack Dempsey along with it. And a Jag should be a lot bigger than 9" and a Midas should be bigger than 7" when they're over two years old. I'm not even going to ask how big/stunted the Oscar was. But they had plenty of room to swim around. I'll just bow out of this discussion because you'll never convince me and we'll just argue and derail. Sorry Bro, I just don't think you're giving the OP a good example. Take care.

:iagree:Plus they would have only lived half the age they should have with the out of control nitrate levels in that tank.

Sorry I should should have clarified a bit more about my midas so you can give the best advice. She is female and gentle as can be, even when guarding eggs she only claimed about 12" sq around her flower pot as a no go zone. She is far from a "normal" midas in terms of temperament.
Short of actually being latched on to she doen't get physical, this has happened only once with a CAE.

The juvie jag I noticed was the one hiding at the back as the other was right in my face at the lfs even though it is only about 2.5", the hiding one is about 2" and definitely less dominant.

All I can say is be prepared. I've had a female jag for the last 3ish years that has been just like you describe your midas as. She is about 10 inches. Last night she snapped and maimed an 18 inch marble pim and killed a 10 inch asian upsidedown cat and a 2 foot marble pim. Found the pim with all his barbels and fins ripped off and his gilplates shredded. Died about a half hour later. You'll probably see the jag on here for sale in the next week or so. If you don't, you'll know she got the letteropener...

You should be fine with that setup, as for aqua 2 years is a little much but I believe you I had a 6" female and a 9" male jaguar with a 8-9" male Midas and a 10" creni. Cyanonotus for about a year in a 75 jags would spawn but I would just remove the eggs. It also helped that I had a lot of caves too.

The best luck I have had with my jag is adding dither fish. I have found jags are easily distracted. I use 3 5" tinfoil barbs and my 10" Male jag usually takes out his aggression on them.

Sorry I should have updated. i am not persuing a jag, I am just going to keep looking for a Loisellei or freddy.
Thank you for your input guys.
