I have 180 gallon tank and the current resident being a common pleco. I really want a Jag I was wondering if it could tolerate any other cichlids or should I just shoot for a breeding pair?

A breeding pair is a sight to behold sir. Awesome fish and even better parents.

I'd definitely go with multiple sources... But I'd divide them off till you know their sex so you can get a proper pairing from the different sources. Jag's are very entertaining to watch.

to the original question you can keep other cichlids with jags most of the time.
jags are known to be more territorial then killers such as rds and doviis etc. example if you have a green terror and it tries to go in the jags cave or what not the jag will run him off and usually retreat with no harm done.

depends. usually its trial and error. the jag should be fine with other cichlids.its if the cichlids are fine with the jag so you want the jag to be the dominant fish for your tank. jags can be bullied when small but if you have a decent size jag or grow one out to a good size then it will make things easier. i would recomend trying a green terror, jack dempsey, veja argentae, female festae, salvini those are just some choices that jump to mind. the meanest one i mentioned would usually be the female festae but still does not grow to the size of the jag. i would start with a male jag and build from there. if you look at the female festae it is a beautiful cichlid and i think would look great with a male jag. the veja argentae would be my 2nd choice its also a great looking cichlid. hope i helpled
