Male, and he's a beau. If you get him I hope you keep him for years and remain a MFK member. Would love to see him grow up into a big brute and see what his colors are like when he's 3 years and 13"+.

I'm saying male as well but how about that awesome pattern. I'm used to seeing their black show up in perfect circular black dots, not in that paint splat pattern your's has. That guy has a unique look, definitely worth the buy. Congrats on the find, breed that guy.

This, I'd definitely be interested in some fry if you can find another wild female down the road.
 
Mean looking male. He'll be a. Awesome addition. As for ph, they can handle most situations, as long as it stays that way. As with most big cichlids, they're tough dudes as long as it doesn't fluctuate. Although I've noticed when people bring dull, boring looking jags in to the lfs, their bag water usually has a real low ph.
