I've got a baby jag growing out in one of those 5g bio orbs, but I've got a 75g coming to me in the next few weeks. I'm currently playing with the idea of stocking that tank with him, some clown loaches and some rainbowfish. Good idea/bad idea? Perhaps any other suggestions for tank mates?

ive had my male jag now 1year and a half in a 150us gallon and now hes started attacking everything in the except the hoplo catfish,
as you have a small tank as in minimum recamedation for 1 single jag i would have to say maybe have only the jag and possibaly a birchir!!!

Ouch!!!

You'll get away with a few Clown loaches whilst he's still young, but they will have to relocated eventually. As stated, 75g is bare minimum for a Mana, so anything else would most certainly be off the card's IMO.

Jags should not be in anything smaller than 150, even that is pushing it. and keep with other S.A. chichlids at the same size. they are aggressive fish and will probably beat up on anything if the tank is not big enough.

it also depends on their personality as well, my 13" jag is happy to live with a 5" Siamese tiger fish and doesn't take a second look at my rays as well lol

here is two vids, enjoy :)

I always find it really hard to get a good idea of their size from pictures and videos. Next time perhaps you could stick your hand in with a 12" ruler for me so that I can get a better idea :lol2:.

PS. in the first vid is the Jag's pec fin a bit ripped up? I have a rubbish monitor so I may be seeing things.

yup, your right his right fin is abit damage.

he used to be in a 6x2x2 with an oscar and flowerhorn all is well, until my friend's tank had a leak and he had to put them in buckets while draining the tank etc.

now the jag is moving in with me because my friend cant get other replacement tank at the moment.

but as for the jag and you can see from the video he is soo lay back its unreal, no fuss at all. ;)

yeah I pretty much agree that in a 75 gallon you won't want to keep anything else but the jag and a 75 is kinda on the small size for a jag to live in long term. :)

yes my jags around 11inches and was the perfect fish hanging out all day with the oscars then suddenly one day i came home to find the oscars cowering in the corner and every time they moved bam he would heard them back!!!i removed him and a week later tried adding him again, only to find this time he went for everything in the tank!!
