it also depends on their personality as well, my 13" jag is happy to live with a 5" Siamese tiger fish and doesn't take a second look at my rays as well lol

here is two vids, enjoy :)

great jag, but how big is the tank? secondly theres nothing in the tank to fight over anyhow

Yeah, I know on paper the 5g bio orb just seem cruel but my fish is literally less than an inch long and the 75g tank isn't some nebulous concept; it's actually in my possession. I work at a fish store and when we get our shipments in on Wednesdays the Jags are always 10x smaller than the jags we already have. Long story short, I pulled this little guy out of the mouth of his tank mate.

I do appreciate the communities input, though. My experience with full grown jags is limited. I'm pretty fond of him so I'll likely keep him, but its no big deal for me to take him back to work when he is big enough not to be swallowed.

I'll probably have my hands full with my lungfish in the future, but what would the hobby be without some impulse decisions?

Jags should not be in anything smaller than 150, even that is pushing it. and keep with other S.A. chichlids at the same size. they are aggressive fish and will probably beat up on anything if the tank is not big enough.

:screwy::grinno:

mine is only 7" but I have it in with a bunch of different fish (half of them are smaller) in a 210 long w/o inicident (bichirs, other cichlids, pike cichlid, gar, payara, little gourami). the female that was in there with him was a little more aggressive at about half the size (they were both 4" when i removed the female). the 75 is too small for tankmates, let alone the jag even at 12" or so (stated already)

Lol, it
s all good. I raised my old jag from 1" to a little over 4" in a 10 gallon. I just did daily 50% water changes, lol. It grew like a weed, seriously .75" every 2 weeks at least. Too bad I had to sell him though, he was turning into quite a looker.

Lol, that guy is funny. 150 pushing it for a solo jag?:screwy: Yeah, if you want it to reach the same size as that 22 incher that was caught in Florida, 150 may be too small for it to get that big. However, if you run a system that does continuous automatic water changes. You should get tons of growth out of your fish, more so than usual. I'm gonna do it one day, to have the largest jag in captivity. ;P

Oh yeah, and no tank mates for the jag. Even if it's a pleco, he'll harass it to no end, if he's anything like my jag was.

hm... perhaps I'll just have to assess my situation further and be happy with a small fish in a big tank for a while.
