I think a ray would work but what are the tank deminsions, rays need a wide tank with soft substrate.

standard 150 but i will get a new 180.. can the ray survive well with the jag?

The ray should be fine, but im not an expert on rays. You could ask the ray forum, i've seen them kept together before with no problems.

Ray's need depth and width not so much height, but I definitly don't think a 150 or a 180 will work for a ray........ if your Jaguar is the one in your avatar, which looks male, you will have problems with getting either a Festae (true red terror) or a Dovii, especially the Dovii. But if you get females of either a Festae or Dovii to be tankmates, then it might work.
