If your talking about the tank size, a standard 180 is 6x2x2. I don't know if the depth(front to back) would be deep enough at only 2 feet, the length would be fine. I've never owned rays, but the ones I've seen in private tanks are in tanks that have measurements with at least 3 or 4 feet in depth. If your talking about the Dovii or Festae as possible tank mates, it's because if you get males, they will end up fighting with the Jag. I'm gonna assume that your Jag is living alone in the tank, right? That probably means it sees the entire tank as it's territory and will probably fight what ever new fish you put in there.

well yea it lives alone.. but has only been alone for a week!
he lived with gars before.. would a female jag or red terror work?

Most likely, I have a male Dovii that tolerates my female Festae and female Jaguar, but it does not like my male Red Tiger Mota much....LoL

i don't know if you should do the dovii experement but like with all agresive fish it is a hit and miss situation, you might find that the 2 fish get along perfectly for years or they might kill each other in a couple of days.

I woud go with the female jag but that might also not work.
just be prepared to remove one of the fish if you must, atleast you have a big tank with lots off space to help you.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progres

It's always a crap shoot when you ad a new sub adult/adult cichlid to an established tank. It's always best to let them grow out together. The bigger issue with the A. Festae is the water parameters. Managuense thrive in harder water...Festae, being SA cichlids, in softer water.

For the record, my personal experience is that the Festae was the most aggressive fish I have ever owned. I'm not familiar with rays....but that would probably have a better chance at the worry free tank.

imo the ray will be bothered too much by the jag and you will also find it hard to feed with the jag around, the jag could also nip at the rays wing tips which would be a disaster for the ray, unless you get a large motoro but that could eat the jag lol
