Is there anything that can live in a 75 gallon tank with a jag (not sure of the sex). I was thinking a pair of convicts or some other cichlid that can hold its own but not get huge. I would have a bunch of jag-proof caves...

What do you recommend if anything?

Thanks
Mike

sorry my personal experience is it really depends on the jag some just wont get along with any other tank mates and will fight anything even if they are taking a beating from it..
had a male once that was fine in a monster community tank strange species..

i agree every fish is different. maybe i was lucky but managed to keep at the time a larger male tex with my female jag they got along quite good never a problem in my 75g

you can try anything but be prepared to move fish around if problems arise...which they probably will especially if you wind up with a male. imo your chances of a jag and anything else cohabitating in a 75 are very slim.

well it depends on the fish, mine were always somewhat tolerent of other fish, until they sarted to breed, then they tore everything up that came to close, now i keep mine alone, you may succed with a cohabitation for awhile, but then it may all change, and 75 gallons is really small, males need 125's, but females could handle 75's, not neccecrilly with other fish though

Definitely depends on the fish.

I would ask the fish store you buy the new fish from if you could bring them back if they get into trouble.

My JD only hates fish that are bigger than him. The Jag generally hates everything but won't bite unless they go near his turf.

The JD also will not tolerate any sort of plant. I anchored a small sword down really well (slate) and watched and laughed as my JD continued to beat the ever loving crap out of the plant. He tried so hard to tear that thing out of the ground that it finally just tore in half.

Maybe you can wait untill the jag outgrows the 75, as he will eventually, and then you can put another cichlid in there. Jags grow fast, you prbly wont need to wait too long :)

Yeah, if you have jag proof caves you can have some of the smaller tougher cichlids...that's also if ur Jag isn't an all out killer too because in a 75, things can get tight with a big male jag.

Any smaller-medium sized fish that wouldn't mind taking over a cave as territory and willing to defend from there would work. Cons seem to always take over caves alot, especially with a pair, make sure it's cave with some room so they don't have to stay in place all day lol.

JD's like caves also and they don't get too big. Probably be better with just 1 JD.
