jag with a severum?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
everyone is small, the largest is the snook maybe 4 inches there a huge tree stump to hide in and a few random branch piles. are the green severum any more or less aggro then the gold? would prefer gold.

My gold is less aggro than my green or turquoise, but I don't think its a common occurance. Its not like those fish that are albino and are a little weaker than regular ones or anything like that. I also think my gold is more passive because its much larger and it doesn't do anything but get chased by the oscar. I have never seen the gold severum do anything but swim in between fights tp break them up.

My gold severum is a hippy.

ya most of my fish are pretty kicked back the jag occasionally chases the snook but never any damage. thought about an oscar but didnt want it messing up my snook

My oscar doesn't do a thing except chase my severum from time to time and rip up plastic plants. I even glued them to slate and he still ripped them up. I would get 2 severums actually. Maybe thats why mine work so well. An oscar wouldn't be bad if its pretty big. It seems that cichlids will only compete with the fish that are similar in shape/size.

I know thats just from my experience, but I have kept dwarf cichlids with a 14 inch flowerhorn without problems for a few months now. He attacked other flowerhorns in his tanks, knocked down dividers to get to them. But the little guys don;t pose a threat to him.

two sevs? would that stocking be too much? im fine with it, planning on running another fx5 with my current within the next couple weeks. could get 1 gold one green or turqoise

I'd say a failsafe way to keep Severum with your Jaguar would be to get 2 around the same size, and keep them together in their own take for a few weeks as both a Quarantine and to let them get used to eachother. In my Experience with Severums they're often quite aggressive towards eachother when first introduced then they settle down and get along fine.

If you've got a pair or two friendly Severums together they'll hopefully look out for each other. As with everything though, it really works on a fish to fish basis so you're going to be looking at some trial and error when they're introduced, and it might not work long term.

theres usually tanks for sale on craigslist decent price in az hell just missed a 300 and 120 for 160 for both no room though. yea we have multiple tanks and im setting up my other 29 to breed convicts in so could grow them out some in it.

DONT DO CONVICTS!!!!!!!!!!

WORST COMMUNITY CICHLID EVER!!!! I would recommend them in a hmmmm flowerhorn or dovii community.

I always end up getting rid of/quarentining convicts. They are convicts becasue they are as relentless as a convicted serial murderer and are as promiscuous as a convict that has just been let out of jail after a 10 year sentence.

Stick them in a species tank.

they will be purely for food supply
