Jag with a swollen papilla?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the eggs are pink they should be fertile, just gonna have to wait and find out. I have never seen a hybrid between them, or heard of one but I would not be supprised if it can be done. Make sure you keep us updated with photos.

yeah you can say that again.

She's already bit me once and made countless verbal threats toward me.

You guys are getting me excited! It would be sweet if they hatched!

The Jag and JD were sort of forced to be friends when they used to hide from the Pacu in one cave. So maybe that's what got the gears of love to... mesh?

My jag is quite a bit bigger than the JD and i think thats why she's so dominant.

JD is still not allowed near the eggs but he tries to poke his head over there as much as he can.

These are the newest shots- 48 hours after they were hatched.

More have turned white. Still most of them are pink.

This is as close as the JD is allowed to get.

I am starting to think they are no good because they still look sort of see-through. I would expect there to be some sort of solidification as the egg developes?

Thanks!

It isn't looking too good with the eggs though. Today i went and checked on them at noon, more have turned white, about 50 of them, maybe more. The ones that were white to begin with now have fuzz! The jag keeps looking at the bad ones but she can't remove them without ruining a bunch of big ones; she's just too big. If she would only let the JD come over there and help out...

Its been 2.5 days and the pink ones are still pink but they look to be dormant and my guess is unfertilized. I think after day 4 i'm going to remove them and let the Jag get back to normal. I have no clue how i'm going to remove them because she will probably just attack me. Maybe i'll just hook up my super vac. I plug in a piece of 5/8" hose to the intake on the filter system (mag 9.5) and it'll suck up anything!

If i catch the Jag laying eggs next time, I'll remove her from the tank or put in a divider and see if the Jack goes and fertilizes them. Then i can let the Jag guard them because she's pretty damn good at it!

She ate em all :(

well, there's always next time

sounds like she just droped the eggs. also females will often "test" the strength of a potential mate. this would explain the fighting after the "flirting". i feel that they will never breed successfully unless the male can "dominate" her. and being as ur JD is smaller, this will not likely happen. at least you know you have a mature female jag. that is willing to lay them eggs. :)
