Get it, and breed it.
You don't need to get a female that large.
And if you get a couple of xanthic fry with a batch, grow them out and sell em.
You'll make a nice little profit on them.

Well I phoned the store and they will hold it for me. I get him on Thursday. I don't even know of any stores around me that even had a 5" female

That is great you are getting him. I would get the largest female you can and grow her out. That might be the only option unless you want to hold out just in case..

Jags are pretty easy to come by, you should be able to pick up a few females in no time.

Yeah they are but mostly large males come thru the stores in my area. Havn't seen too many females.

sometimes males and females can be easily mistaken. So make sure you take good hard looks at whats available and maybe buy a divider in case you want to try and take a few (suspect male/females home) and see if any of them show breeding signs. Plenty of people have gotten "male" jags that turned out to be female. So it may be worth a shot if you ever come across any.
