jag x rotkiel sev?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah ... they both guarded the eggs for 2 days, beat the brakes off of a couple smaller fish and then as fast as it happened the raotkiel decided it was chow time and he and the rest of the tank chased away the jag and ate the eggs, the weird thing about all of this is that in the 2 days only like 25% of the eggs turned white so I was under the impression that if they were infertile wouldnt they go white faster

im no denying the rules of hybridization here but i thought they would have went white basically the next day..

and as far as an update the sev and the jag were seperated and my jag had some time too regroup solo for a bit and she was released into my big tank 3 days ago to clear up the 500 or so red devil x midas fry that were left in there, and she wasnt getting the job done fast enough for my liking so i tossed in a nice big 8 inch male cuban and I swear not 10 min after putting him in she has fallen in love all over again, ahhhh young love haha.. so im hoping the biggest issue i have is these friggin fish breeding in my big tank is a total pain in the ass but because i have lost one batch off my female jag i dont want to bounce her around anymore so im just going to have to watch closely so i can remove the eggs before the other inhabitants in there dont have another meal on my jags babies.

so im pretty excited to see what the jag x cuban mix looks like so when i see some action i will repost under a different thread
I had hoped to fgind just another male jag for her but this cuban is beautiful so we will see...

I should clarify. These are the Hybrid Rules. (Post them on the tank so your fish can see them:))
4. No South American Cichlid can hybridize with any other South American Cichlid - Until it is proven otherwise, assume that South American Cichlids can not hybridize with any South American. No South American Cichlid has ever been confirmed to successful hybridize with any South American Cichlid, any case of this happening successfully has been word of mouth.
Exception to the rule: Same genus South American Cichlid can potentially hybridize with one another. For example a Green Terror (Aequidens Rivulatus) can hybridize with a Blue Acara (Aequidens pulcher). http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/fo...rican-Cichlids

Seems like the exception is nearly greater than the rule; NO SA cichlids will hybridise EXCEPT at inter-species level where most of them will quite happily hybridise....
