Alright, i was wondering if this combo would work...... in my 90G I have a 10-11" tiger oscar, and i was looking to add a 5-6" red jaguar.... there is NO WAY my oscar can swallow this guy, and he seems pretty aggressive (the jag) Im upgrading to a 150G this summer so this isnt a permanent home... suggestions would help.. thanks

Going from what I have read Jags can be pretty nasty and I know Oscars are wimps when it comes to fish that fight back (mine are anyway) so you may want to hold off till you get the bigger tank.

Thats what I was thinking, i might just wait until the 150 and get another oscar... because mine doesn't seem to have a fighting spirit.. he wont even eat feeders.. lol

He only eats his hikari... so maybe ill start an exotic oscar tank :naughty:

I kept two oscars and a pair of jags in a 125gal for over a year. The oscar should stand up for itself, possibly push the motaguense around until gets a little larger.

In a tank that large, you shouldn't have that much of a problem really. Add a few SD's as dithers if possible around the same time, help take the focus off of each other.

wait, is this a managuensis or motaguensis? i'm confused by "red jag"

my manny is still pretty small (about 8"), but it's pretty laid back (besides eating like a pig, lol)

:) Mine spent the first fortnight laid down in a corner playing dead every time something in the room moved. A real lionheart she turned out to be.

ok in my oppinon as i had<until a couple of days ago> two oscars and a jag with silver sharks and tinfoils in a 150us!!!!
It works for about 1year then suddenly around six months jag went crazy, so i removed him and rearranged the tank totally and left him out for 6hours then reinterduced him and all went swimmingly for about another 4months!!!!
suddenly 2weeks ago brutis started going for my oscars litterally sheep hearding them in a corner and if they ever moved he went for them both,so after a few days i removed him to a temp tank!!!! Then after about 1odays i readded him only to find he went straight for the oscars and did same thing then started going for the foils and sharks...
so iam going to have to say no sorry,,, but iam advising you from my bad

never heard of a "red" jaguar, but yes it would be okay for a little while.

plus-

oscar is much bigger currently
oscars are dopey and can take a beating
oscars are in general passive
jaguars are more territorial than aggresive. and 90% won't attck for no reason, as long as the oscar stays to his part of the aquarium. (con- this is where a bigger tank is needed 6-8 foot.

minus-

tanks to small for both together as adults MUCH to small. look for a 6'x18"-24" tank for adults together.

oscars are very prone to HITH (hole in the head) which is a common diesease, whcih can ethier come from poor water quality, bad feedings (feeders) or STRESS- oscars getting chased constantly will get it bad.

jags will grow fast, males 14-15" females 11-14". both can have aggresive tendencies.

Its a maybe, maybe not. It'll probably work though.

If you used a divider, or cleared out some of the decor you'd have higher chances of success.
