Jags and oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would wait for the 6ft tank. Your chances of success will be much greater in a larger tank.

Even then, like South Coast Nelly said, it might not work. If you get an aggressive one, sometimes it just doesn't work.

Alright, i was wondering if this combo would work...... in my 90G I have a 10-11" tiger oscar, and i was looking to add a 5-6" red jaguar.... there is NO WAY my oscar can swallow this guy, and he seems pretty aggressive (the jag) Im upgrading to a 150G this summer so this isnt a permanent home... suggestions would help.. thanks

Since the Jag is already aggressive I would say no. Once he gains some size that Oscar is toast.

had a 10 in oscar with a 7 in jag(male).they were fine for awhile untill they started fighting.jag ended up with a jaw thats cock eyed.hid from oscar till i sold him,BUT jags will get bigger and i believe the tables would turn

I wouldn't try it in the 90.Might be possible in the 150

I tried it in a 125g with both fish around 7-8" and it didn't work out. No matter where the oscar went in the tank the jag would constantly beat on him.

My jag is super aggressive. He's about 13"

It has worked for me my jag has a lil oscar mate that lived with him for about 2 weeks so far 1.5-2" lol he follows my jag around like he is his dad i got lucky..btw this is a hospital tank so don't flame the oscar never got injured from my jag but is in there for some Fin damage. i'm thinking about keepin them together now :D

below is a short clip of it

My oscars are maniacs. Their each 4" and they ate 16 feeders in about 8 minutes. I bought a little extra for my GT and JD but they can't catch any.

personally i wouldnt do it i think when your jag gets big enough he will beat the oscar to no ends. might work in 150 but im still iffy

I never thought an Oscar and Red devil would work together..both of my oscars and both of my red devils are buddied up with each other in separate tanks.. all of them almost full grown.. so i would say it probably would be ideal.. but just keep a close eye until your sure all is well.

i agree with you.. if they were in a big tank with plenty of places to hide i would say okay.. but the oscar is much too small not to be a victim eventually.. i think the oscar is staying in the jags rear for safety.. he is a smart little guy..
