Jags in Community Tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I currently have a Jag in my 150 gallon tank with a JD and a Pleco. There isnt much fighting, just a brief show of whos the more dominant (excluding the pleco of course). The pleco is perfectly fine as he just moves around the bottom section of the tank, the JD gets pecked rarely, unless he tries to do a fast one on the Jag. Other than that, its a pretty peaceful tank.

Although, different fish have different personalities, and its no guarentee that a fish will be overly aggressive or peaceful.

I think it really depends on the fish, as with most other large cichlids.

THAT IS TRUE!

Jags from what iv seen of them (1's I had kept/looked after) they are not that aggressive at all,
i have had jags in with other fish with out any probs (apart from my breeding female)

in this 4x2x2 tank i had a male jag of 9inches living with -
4x pictus cats
1x m.pim same size as the pictus
2x small cons (whitch you can see at the front of the tank)
and some plecs

In a diff 4x2x2 tank I had a 12inch (he must be around that!) Xanthic Jag housed with -

1x 7-8inch gold saum
2x 1-2inch dovii
2x 2-3inch JD's
4x pictus cats
2x 4lined pictus
and some royal plecs

but when I added a 2nd male 2 the tank the 2 Jags battled it out and I had to put them in there own tanks, well take out the normal morph jag, I put him in a 5x2x2 with -

2x dovii
2x JD
1x 12inch RT male
1x big GT
loads of pictus cats and a 18inch common plec

also my verry 1st BIG tank I had (well not my 1st big tank but my 1st tank that was longer than 4ft) was a 5x2x2 housing these fish along with a 9inch Jag -
1x silver arro
1x GG
1x TSN
1x M.Pim
2x clarias
2x shark cats (pangasias ? at the back of the pacus tail in pic 2)
2x feather fin syno
1x little female con
1x breeding pair of what i was thinking was jade-eyes, but they was somethink els?
2x gibby plecs
4x Tin foil barbs
2x pacu
1x black shark
8x silver d's
2x black mbuna
1x venustus

there are pics of all these tanks in this thread

but I have loads more pics if people NEED to see:grinno:

Depends on space. You stick them in a smaller tank with a smaller footprint, you'll run into problems.

With a larger tank and more fish, the aggression is spread out as well as them having their own spot for territory.
