Started a tank with some juvenile jags 1.5- 2" (trying to end up with a pair). Have kept jags before but never this small. Although its probably a good idea in nature for a 2 inch fish with huge cannibalistic parents likely in the area to lay low it makes for a pretty boing display in the home aquarium. Tank decor is silk plants and driftwood they hide under driftwood all day with the occasionaly venture out to snag a pellet and dart back in. Was wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the driftwood for now as they could still hide amongst the plants and be seen somewhat possibly making them less fearful or would this stress them out and I should just leave them to hiding? Any opinions are appreciated

Just let them hide until they're ready to come out. They're still super young, so their natural instinct is going to be to stay somewhere secure. Obviously, they feel the driftwood is the best place for that. Taking it out will just stress them out.

Agreed 100% leave them alone.

Leave them alone and get some silver dollars or giant danios.

My jag is the same way, but I see her getting bolder al the time. She's eating all her pellets and krill but she just grabs them and goes back in her hide but when she sees me and shes hungry, shes not shy at all.

ditchers might help their confidence. My GT was always scared when I walked up to the tank, now with a group of schoolers hes always out and about bossing everyone around and watches me.

I would let them hide. Removing cover from a hiding fish has not proven a good thing IME. They will grow up and become more outgoing eventually.

Good luck, I love jags.
