I had a jag a few months ago, and I got it the same time i got my Jd. My jd got way bigger then the jag. I had the Jag for about 6months and it may have gained an inch. My question is are Jags slow growers like Green terrors?

No they are not. all the ones I have had grew very fast or atleast as fast as all of my other centrals. the only fish I have kept that grew a lot faster then the jags were all Midas.

Is it eating well. My only assumption would be the JD is bulling the jag so it's not eating well. what is your water temp. I always kept mine around 82 degrees F until the fish hit around 6-8" then drop it back to 77 or so.

really puzzled with this one.

This is an interesting question - however, it depends on many things to answer. What was the size of the JD & the Jag at the time of purchase? What is the tank size they inhabit? There may be an intimidation factor here on the part of the JD. In general, you will find that jags are not really slow growers - in 6 months time you could have a nice sized specimen on your hands if conditions are optimal for both the jag and the JD...

Yes it was eating good. My water temp stays around 77. I just figured something was wrong with it. I gave it to my friend to see what it would do in his tank and still seems to be very small. My JD is about 5-6in and the jag was maybe 2in when I gave it to him.

I got both of them around 1in I would say. I had just got a 55gal and was going to keep them there until this summer until I could get a 125gal. I gave the jag to a friend to see how it would do in his tank. I plan on getting my 125gal in about 2 months are sooner. I am going to get another Jag. I bought both fish from petsmart maybe that was my problem. Petsmart in South Carolina sucks we really don't have in other place to get good fish from.

No I didnt change his diet when I had him. It just seemed odd that it was growing as slow as it was. I think jags are really cool fish and i am going to get another in 2months are so. I didn't know if thats just the way they grew. If I hadn't gave it a way I think my JD would have killed it. I think I will buy two jags and keep them in the 125 by themselves and is this enough room for two Jags??

You might have got 1 that is dwarfed. I don't know if all fish do this but sometimes a cichlid will be a dwarf. I had a trimac for over a year in a 125 that only got 3 inches. Someone had pointed me to an article on it, but I couldn't tell you how to find it. It was like 2 years ago.
