I have a 125 gal with 4 3/4s" jags in it right now. I was hoping for a male and would find homes for all the others when i get a male.
I just went to petsmart and seen some red snooks about 4".
Im thinking i might be changing my mine about the jags as the snooks look way cool.
What would the deffernce be in the two (snook - jag) as for a temperment, size?
The jag should reach a nice size as will the snook?
Also, would i be able to keep anything with the snook like mabey a school of silver dollars? if i decide to change out the jags for a snook, thanks

Snooks are very peacefull for cichlids but they WILL EAT ANYTHING THAT WILL FIT INTO THEIR MOUTHS and their mouths are like the loading door on a C130 cargoplane.

I have a group of 10 that are 9+".... I really like them but I would like some of the green.

The jags would be fine with them unless a couple of the jags pair up and then it's hard to say what would happen.

oh ok, i was looking for a aggressive fish that i could keep alone. The snook,i would have one red snook and mabey a few silver dollars and a pleco..
The Jags, after i find out if one is a male, i would give all the others away, then would endup with one male jag and a pleco.
Im just not sure if that jag would fill out the 125 enough to look good alone.
The snook, so it would be about like an oscar in aggressiveness?
dang i just dont know what one would be better looking. If only my wife would let another big tank in the house.. :naughty:

How about a Midas of the same size. I have one in a 55 gal i could move to the 125 . Then i would have a red snook, midas, a few silver dollars and a pleco, would that work? or is the midas too aggressive for the snook?

I'd put something large and non aggressive with the snook. Just me. Red bay snook get 50cm(so what like 16"??)

Personally I would just do the one snook and silver dollars and hope nothing gets eaten. But buy largest silver dollars you can find. Same with the pleco. Also you could start with a bunch of snooks and weed them out as they grow to get a male.

I wouldn't throw the midas in there though unless you would like to try it when the snook is bigger and see how the midas acts. Something like that is usually a fish by fish basis as not all midas are the same.

the snook? its growth rate be the same as the jag? which one gets bigger?

doesnt the snook need brackish water? i could be wrong. if that's the case, you couldnt keep both

I've never heard that.

Mine started at 1" and are 1.5 years old and they are 9" maybe 10"

I would keep at least 2 in the 125 and the silver dollars would look nice with them.

Hay could a track eel or a fire ell go in with these guys?
