Alright I have this thing in my tank and it's a a big piece of pvc with another piece that connects like a funnel and narrows it out. We took a grinder and scraped it up, burned it, and cut out holes for slate. I ran my airline through it so that's where the bubbles come from. I know it sounds weird but it looks really cool. (I'll post pics later if I can) So my Jaguar I got around two weeks ago always hides in there, I hardly see him out of it. I can't get him to come out. I tried flickin' the lights on and off and turning the air pump on and off but he won't move. Next time he comes out I'm gonna put a grid on it so he can't go back in. Any idea why he does this.

Don't block him from his spot, that'll just stress him. Right now he's probably just getting used to the tank. Give it time and he'll come out of his shell. He'll figure out that you are the one with the food lol.

At this point in time the worst thing you could do is force him out of his comfort zone.

^^^^^^^^ yup like what everyone above said give it time and he'll be out in the front of the tank for you =]

Give it some time. Jags are pretty bold fish. They just need to get used to it's surroundings. As it gets bigger, it'll come out more.

i have a 4" jag that hides inside of a 12" flower pot all the time as well. mine comes out to eat however, will yours??

as long as he's feeding, i wouldent worry much personally. he may just like the spot for lack of current or something that we dont know.

He's just a baby... he will become the king of the tank soon enough.. my only concern would be to make sure he is eating...if he is then l would leave him alone..

As they all said he'll defenitely come around. give him time and let him settle in. they are an extremely outgoing fish once they get settled in.

My 2 Jags are always at the front of the tank when I come in the room. They amaze my friends at feeding time when they eat from my hand and let me pet their head with my finger. My other cichlids are a different story however. If yours is just a little guy, give him time to mature and hopefully he'll come around.
