I'm not going to go into huge detail why, I'll just say I was sick of it.
Here is my question.
I dropped my 3.75" female Salvini into my 11"+ Jaguar. He beat the h*ll out of it and proceed to eat it. He has had like 1/2" of it's tail hanging out of his mouth now for about 3 hours. As I look in on him now and again, it almost appears that he it trying to spit it out.
Is he trying to spit it out, or somehow shredding it with the insides of his mouth, should I be concerned?

Don't gamble on this, but I'm pretty sure cichlids chew in their throats. Anyone wanna back me up or correct me? And nice Jag btw, I love those jerks.

Yeah, I love the hell out of him, 2 nights ago I opened the lid to the tank to scold him for not eating his pellets. I said you'd better get to eating or they will get mushy and yucky. He come flying up and out of the tank and bit me on the nose. My nose wouldn't stop bleeding just inside the nostril where his tooth got me. I learned me a lesson that night, my face now gets close to the tank only if the lid is on. I'm hope'n it was just a LOVE BITE. LOL

So you were sick of the Salvini & decided to drop him in with the Jag intending on it being food for the Jag?

Food, toy thing, I don't know.
It was a mate in an other tank with a Texan.
Just the minute I dropped that skiddish fish in the tank, all the rest of the fish in that tank that would come front and center when I was in the room, became skiddish also.
That is just one of many reasons it got dropped in to the jag.
Not the biggest reason, just one of many.

You have a 11" Jag in a 40g?

Cichlids grind there meals in their throat, they don't chew..but 3 hours is a very long time for a fish to be trying to swallow it's prey....If it really has been 3 hours, you might want to pull the Salvini out of his throat, it's probably stuck.
