Just an update:
I just got home from Physical therapy, found the Salvini 1/2 gone and spit out and sucked up against the intake to one of the filters. Should I leave it for a while, or get it out?

ummmmmmm..........you want to get it out of there for many reasons: obviously the jag couldn't handle it and it may have killed him, not to mention the ammonia build up from decaying dead fish lying around, etc.

it's out now, didn't know if maybe he might go back to it in a while. He's probably done eating for the week, I'll probably be back to scooping out uneaten pellets in a few days, and I won't be dropping in nightcrawlers for a few days now that his gut is full.

That was a waste of a perfectly good fish, and if the jag had died it would've served you right. :(

You had several other options available to you, such as returning it to the LFS, setting up another tank, adding more decorations to make the other fish feel more comfortable, and so on. Instead you doomed that fish to a painful demise because you were sick of it? I'm just missing your logic.

Regardless, I hope your jag makes a speedy recovery.

I hope you have more problems, shouldnt have fish if they piss you off. Next time be more responsible and give the unwanted fish away rather than feeding it to another fish and having that fish maybe choke on it.

:iagree:

Now normally I might disagree with the above statements on the basis that we feed feeder fish to our fish and no one seems to care. But hte difference between the feeders and the cichlids are that the feeders are only bred to be food. Whether you buy the feeder or not, it will eventually be bought by someone and it will meet the same fate.

Now one could argue the same argument vegetarians make (I am one) that by buying less (or none) of a product it helps reduce the amount the companies will produce (because they don't want to produce more than they can sell), but I think the two are not really comparable.

Anyway, the cichlids on the other hand can be found a home, so it is our (the ones who brought them into captivity for our amusement in the first place) moral obligation to at least try to give them as good a life as possible, rather than feeding a fish that could have been found a good home to another fish.

Not to be rude, but would you feed your jaguar to another fish if you got sick of it? Or maybe the better question is would you eat it yourself?

To me (correct me if i am wrong), you sound like a very impatient person, a trait rarely rewarded in this hobby.

I think the OP gets the picture, and while we might not agree to what has been done, they are his fish, and techinically he has the right to do as he pleases. Its just best that we agree to disagree in this instance, and since the original question has been answered I'm closing this thread.
