Interesting. I don't know if they are legal here, I've never seen them, although I'm sure many research centres/unis have them. I'd be tempted to keep it, just incase you don't get the chance again!

I'm pretty sure you could not get these in England. If you could there would be some rather serious violations to the Animal cruelty and welfare laws in the UK.
Friend of mine from Cambridge basically told me after showing him how they feed "If you did that back home you would be in jail"

Trichomyctrids are Illegal in many parts of the southern US, across the West coast and in some Northern States.

I gave it back this morning. If I get the ok from the wife to squeeze one more tank in. I can get 8 or so for a species tank. I would like to research reproduction.

I believe it!!. They are more aggressive on a goldfish than a shoal of Red Belly Ps. Believe that..........

So you can get some more.. How about passing them along to MFK members? :)

Not as hard as one would think to spawn them. This has been my primary interest in P. Nemerus as well as other Trichomycterids.

I had P. nemerus spawn twice so far. The challenge is getting the fry to survive. Between these fish and Vandellia they are major hair pullers to find just what they are feeding on as mobile fry. Once that egg sac is absorbed (8 to 10 DAH) they never last long. This is a big major question mark in their natural history.

Get that wife of yours to agree to another tank!!!!!! It is a lonely world out here in Parasitic fish research and examination... :P

Too small for my tastes, but very interesting. I'd love to dedicate a 55 gal to them.

HOT = House of Tropics
It is one of the oldest LFS in MD.

If any one a MD wants these crazy buggers - HOT has eight.
Go at evening time and ask for Donnie, he is an older gentleman. Tell him Colin informed you about the "crazy" parasitic catfish and you are interested in getting some.
