Jaguar Catfish annual sighting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LOL! The guy I got him from had no hides.. the jag was then obviously always out and about which is fine I guess... I started dropping him massivore in his cave cause he never left it.. I guess I was worried hed never eat.. I know they're not gonna starve themselves either but I bet I see more of my jag feeding him at his cave every week then most people do otherwise in years time... atleast I know hes alive! ?
If you end up acquiring one.. or have or have kept previously a raphael cat it's very much the same and you would know what I'm talking about
lol you are right on point about Raphael Catfish and I have a Megalodoras Irwini that refuses to leave its pvc hide.

Lol, yeah, I've had a couple of fish like that; have one now, in fact. You are making it even easier for yours to live a life of mystery, by giving him a cave with an elbow right at the mouth; he isn't visible unless he comes right to the end to feed. It helps him work on building his near-mythical status.

I have a Bristlenose Pleco now that I see maybe once per month. He lives in a fairly densely planted tank with lots of wood, stone, etc. and some fairly aggressive neighbours. If I really, really want to see him, I'll just comment to my wife that he must be dead and that I should search for a body. I think he senses this impending disruption to his world and seeks to build the legend a bit; he will suddenly appear casually perched in the open, remain for a few minutes, and then...poof! Gone, literally back into the woodwork...:)

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows...

(If you "get" that reference...grab your cane, creakily lever yourself to your feet...don't trip on your walker...and pat yourself on your back, but try not to throw it out in the process. :) )

As far as I know from the research ive done (the little amount there is) on jag cats, it's normal routine for them to acquire a space and stay there, defend it, and leave as little as possible so it is never lost... I would bet if I had no pvc pipe.. it would find a spot in my jungle aquarium and I'd not know where it is and would see it even less then now, if ever...

I think you've hit the nail on the head. When you have a shy, retiring fish that wants to hide, don't expect it to behave normally and display itself well if you deprive it of shelters. Rather, give it every opportunity to feel safe and protected, and that will encourage it to show itself at least occasionally.

"The shadow" I've heard that before but obviously before my time.... as far as the pvc cave.. or what shape it is.. I prefer this mysterious cat the way he is and knowing he is happy in this home he has taken for himself... seeing only a glimpse of him now and again has no effect on how much I enjoy him... when I do see him I appreciate it even more than if I were to disturb him for some nonsense reason (just because I want to see him) .. I dont fix what is not broken! I never said I am unhappy I only see him during feeding, I only added to this thread because I can relate

Im still trying to find one of those telepathically controlled flying knives.

I have 2 striped and one spotted Rafael cats that I only see at feeding time typically. One striped is in with my breeding PNB and the female is always chasing them back into their caves. I also have a small Bumble bee cat that I never see and 3 clown plecos that leave me signs of life that have to be siphoned up
