i had the same question after seeing brent's photography of that beautiful male jaguar! :)
the tip of that jaguar's fins also have a blue tint to them. is it true for all the full grown male jag as well?

also, do jags make good tankmate for fish like datz, Datnoid , and coal grunter?

Beside color, the profile is a good indicator. The female profile is more streamlined, more torpedo like. You can see it in your 2nd pic.
The males profile is often bulkier.
Fins are often more flowing and larger in males.
Although not managuense in my photos, note profile and body bulk differences, male left, in these Nandopsis tetracanthus. The same differences apply to your managuense

@Maduro
I bought a jaguar from petsmart several years ago. It looked exactly like yours. I've noticed that petsmart jaguars are dark(er) than jaguars you get from a LFS. It might be because they are a lower grade managuense.
The jaguar I have now is roughly 2 inches and is as white and light as the the top picture jaguar. It really gets me wondering....

As indicated by many here, the patterning can vary from male to male. However, for the most part you will always see that horizontal bar to some degre in the regular morph male. I don't know where you pulled the picture on the left, but the fish (at least that photo) appears to be a gold morph managuense. Here's a side shot of one of my old favorite managuense. Nice pattern on Jumbo.

His mother was a gold morph and the father a regular. He always maintained that beautiful pattern associated with the gold variant..but the barring as well.

Here's my gold morph male. Note the lack of that barring:

Here's a shot of my good friend at the Cichlid Scene's gold morph. Again...no barring:

Just my two cents.
