Hi a while ago I bought a Jaguar cichlid under the false impression that they didn't get very big. Of course I now know and cannot bring myself to part with him. He is currently 5 inches and living in a 220 litre tank with a blue crayfish. I would like to move him into my 600 litre tank however, I already have in that tank, an Oscar, Jack dempsey, green terror and a small very calm Texas cichlid, these fish are all around 4 to 6inches so I want to know whether moving the Jag in with these guys is a bad move. Even if the odds of a fight are high I would like to give it a try and if aggression breaks out then I can move the Jaguar back and rethink it.

Thanks, your replys are much appreciated.

I had a Jaguar living with just about the same bunch of fish. The Jag was smaller and within 3-4 months the Jag had the tank all to himself. They can get pretty vicious, I would say he would probably get a few kills within a week. Who knows? Im pretty sure they have a different, more effective set of teeth that help them kill the **** out of other less equipped fish. They are jerks by nature. I would honestly say eventually they will kill everything, or die trying.

LOL!!!! Bad bad bad choice of fish if you wanna have him with anything...
Really depends wat he is cross with something or pure.
But i'm 99% sure you will only have dead fish if you try and introduce anything while he grows up.. This is on my own experiences.
Jags either fight for alpha in the tank and kill others or they will be sly and nip anything that moves..
You would prob need a river to have enough tank compacity to have others
very dominate fish.. Wont stop till they win.

Ohhh..... Dont Just discard they are an evil fish and all..
Personally for a single specimen you couldnt have anything better..
They have so much personallity makes a dog look like a fish..
I love mine wouldnt give him up for anything!

Thanks for your replys, I knew these guys could be mean, just wanted a second opinion really, how long would you say the jag could remain in the 220 litre (60 gallon) tank with the crayfish?

Really it's until it gets the idea to eat it. I found that around five inches mine decided to try and kill everything that moved near its area and was very successful. It's a cool looking fish and it does have a lot of personality, its just massively aggressive and capable of dominating other fish. I'm almost positive that they don't like room mates, maybe, maybe another opposite sex jag. Good luck buddy, you got a monster on your hands.

i always thought they were super agressive but ive seen alot of people on here keep them with those kinda fish. definitely not in a 60 gallon but i have seen it. it would be a risk, but if u have a place to move it to, u could try cuz its badass when it works.

i would say you could do it, you have to expect that you will find alot of territorial battles. i have a 9 inch jag in with two 13inch oscars, two 5inch chocolate cichlids, one 3inch blue acara, and 3 hypsophrys nicaraguensis the male is 9inch and the females are 4 inch. i guess i might be a lucky one because i havent had problems with any one being realy aggresive towards each other. sure they try and steal territory from each other but what fish doesnt. i would go for it if i was you...good luck
