Jaguar Cichlid Compatibility?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok, this is all going to depend on YOUR SPECIFIC FISH. not all fish have the same temperment. My Male jag is currently 15.5 inches long. he was raised from about 1 inch long, during he life he has lived with (not all at once) 2 oscars , male red devil,12" male rtm, 2 jds, grammodes (4in), 11in male festae, ornate and sengalas bichers oh and a 9in green severum. Hes chill baby!! the only ones who got a whoopin were the oscars, but they fought back. and although i would swear he was going to break their jaws..there was no serious injuries and no deaths. Hes super easy going now, only would kill a goldfish....but i dont give him feeders anymore. hope this helps

i kept my jag in my 55G till he was 5inch , then i moved him to the bigger tank. i would move him into the new tank before he gets bigger then the other guys. so probably the sooner the better

What are you going to lose by giving it a try? Maybe a fish, LOL, but you can watch if and if you see any aggressiveness simply move it back. Give it a shot.

Thanks Expkeeper its sounds like your Jag is timid in comparison with your average Jag! My oscar is very unterritorial and keeps himself to himself never harming any of the other fish whereas my gt on the other hand is likely to face up to the jag consequently getting brutally murdered. When i had a syno and a plec in with the jag I had to move them as he kept chasing them out of his caves, but maybe with more space and teritories he might calm down?

Wow thanks for all your comments. I think what I might do is pick a day when i'm at home the whole day and move him in the morning, keep a close eye and a net at hand! If he plays up then he can go back into the 60 until he reaches a good 8 inches or so!

I should add he is a male and a bit of a brute to his fellow crayfish although because the crayfish has grown about 3 inches in the last few months and is looking nice and healthy I've just let them get on with it really, but he isn't used to other cichlids so do you reckon he'll just crack and kill the lot in seconds?

thorzep: i would love to see some pictures of this beast of yours, sound like a great fish, you mentioned them eaching having totally different characters, I completly agree, i've heard some bad stories about texas cichs mines as cool as cucumber!

good luck with the move, and keep in mind that by adding your jag into the new tank, it should tone down his aggression because hes the new guy and so he wont be out there to pick a fight with the biggest fish.

He should hopefully loose some of his attitude! althought with so many different charcaters in the tank the introduction of the jag may change the whole pecking order do you reckon?
